MICRA Professor Funding Award Double Success

MICRA Professor Chris Phillipson has been awarded funding for two significant projects.

Professor Phillipson along with Researcher Mrs Patty Doran have been awarded funding from Massey University (New Zealand) for their project ‘Growing Up Healthy in Families Across the Globe’ 1 February 2017 to 31 July 2018. This project seeks to produce a synthesis of five longitudinal projects; three from New Zealand and two from Scotland and Ireland both with similar population, health, education and welfare systems to New Zealand and with similar patterns of inequality.

Massey University have awarded £40k to fund the study Professor Phillipson has also been awarded a £30k HSIF (Faculty of Humanities Strategic Investment Fund) for ‘Developing participatory approaches to care in deprived urban environments’ (with Hyde, P. and McPhail, K). This builds on his work around the relationship between an aging population and urbanization, exploring questions about the impact of cities on older people but expanding into areas of social and economic deprivation.
