Working across the region

We have a strong relationship with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the GM Ageing Hub, bringing together service providers across local authorities.

The University – through the work of the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG) – has played a major role in supporting the development of Greater Manchester as an ‘age-friendly region’.

This has involved extensive work within the region, with other local authorities in the UK, and research with the World Health Organization - who support the global network of age-friendly cities and communities.

MUARG have a particular focus on understanding issues relating to the impact of social exclusion on older people living in low-income neighbourhoods, with a number of funded projects focused on developing work on this theme.
