MICRA Presence at Gerontological Association of America Annual Meeting

A number of academics from MICRA presented at the Gerontological Association of America Annual Meeting, held in Boston November 14-18.
Tine Buffel and Chris Phillipson organised a Symposium on 'Age-Friendly Communities: New Directions for Research and Policy', with participants from Ireland, Belgium and the UK.
From MICRA, Samuele Remillard-Boilard presented her own research comparing Brussels, Montreal and Manchester on developing age-friendly activities; Tine Buffel and Chris Phillipson presented their findings on some of the issues facing cities in responding to the challenge of population ageing. Tine Buffel and Chris Phillipson gave an invited paper to the 'Environmental Gerontology Interest Group' discussing their research on the impact of gentrification on older adults. Samule Remilard-Boilard and Tine Buffel also presented in a Symposium on 'Building Inclusive Communities: Learning from Around the World', highlighting the work in Manchester around challenging social exclusion amongst older people in low income neighbourhoods.
Chris Phillipson co-organised a Symposium on the theme of 'Precarity and Older Adults', with participants from the USA, Canada and the UK. He also gave a paper in a Symposium on 'Political Economy in the 21st Century', with participants from the US and UK presenting papers in honour of Carroll Estes and her contribution to developing critical perspectives in the field of ageing.
