PhD studentship on social isolation

MICRA invites applications for a PhD studentship focused on examining social isolation amongst older people.
The aim of this interdisciplinary PhD is to advance knowledge about how to reduce social isolation among older people (aged 50 years and older) living in urban communities. The PhD will involve quantitative and qualitative research including: survey data analysis, qualitative interviews, the recruitment and training of older people as co-researchers and participant observation.
Working alongside Dr Kingsley Purdam and Dr Tine Buffel, the PhD student will join an active research network including the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group. There will be opportunities for training in a range of research and employment related skills including: project management, data analysis, report writing and presenting.
The student will be primarily based in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Manchester and will link with staff from the partner organisation - the Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation as well as Manchester City Council.
