Vacancy at MICRA: Research Fellow (Evaluation and Community Support)

17 May 2017

Applications are sought for a full-time Research Fellow (Evaluation and Community Support) to join MICRA and The Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research on a Big Lottery Fund grant in association with the Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation (GMCVO).

The post is part of a major programme of work – Ambition for Ageing.

Ambition for Ageing seeks to tackle issues relating to social isolation in old age, working in areas in Greater Manchester with high levels of need in relation to numbers of older people living alone, economic deprivation, poor health, and limited mobility. Central to the programme will be addressing lifelong inequalities associated with class, gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation and the impact of these on quality of life in old age.

The focus of the work will be on building on the strengths and assets of local communities to raise the level of social participation of those experiencing social isolation in old age. An important dimension to this will be working with and building on the skills of older people with an emphasis on the co-production of research and project development. A key objective of the work will be to improve social connections and raise the level of social action within neighbourhoods, increase levels of ‘age-friendliness’, and reduce overall levels of social isolation.

The person appointed to the post would be expected to work with a range of stakeholders across Greater Manchester as well as relevant national organisations working on issues relating to social isolation in old age.
