Debora Price elected President of the British Society of Gerontology

26 July 2016

Professor Debora Price, Director of MICRA, has taken up the office of President of the British Society of Gerontology, a position she will hold for three years (2016-2019).

The British Society of Gerontology is a learned Society affiliated to the Academy of Social Sciences, and the leading UK organisation aiming to enhance knowledge about ageing and later life. Professor Debora Price follows previous President Professor Sheila Peace, who worked tirelessly to support gerontology as a significant research discipline in Britain; former MICRA Director Professor Chris Phillipson also previously held the role. Debbie took up her position at the recent Annual General Meeting of the Society held at the University of Stirling during the BSG’s annual scientific conference, and only days after the Brexit referendum vote in the United Kingdom. Debbie addressed the Society to acknowledge the depth of the challenge posed to academic, policy and practice communities in gerontology over the coming years of her Presidency. You can read her message to the Society entitled “Challenging Times”.
